Limit Gambling Ads Online

If you're trying to quit gambling, the amount of gambling advertising you see could make it more difficult.

To make your journey to reducing or stopping gambling as successful as possible, you can also try to limit the gambling ads that you see on social media channels and the websites you visit.

Depending on the platform, there are several things you can do to try and limit the number of ads and posts you see.

Facebook

There is currently no overall way to remove gambling ads from Facebook. However, you can hide ads and sponsored posts. You can also adjust your ad preferences to manage the topics you see.

Instagram

Instagram currently places ads on public accounts. This includes ads on Reels and ads in profile feed.

Ads from certain categories such as gambling and dating are restricted by default. Note: Instagram can't guarantee that all ads related to each category can be avoided completely.

To control which ads are shown on your account, you must first enable a professional account on Instagram. Once you've enabled your professional account, you have two tools to control which ads show on your account:

  • Brand controls
  • Opt out

Enable brand controls

If you're concerned about which ads show on your account, you can block ads from certain ad categories and prevent advertisers from having their ads shown. Here's how you can prevent and block specific ad categories and advertisers from appearing on your account:

  1. Go to your settings in the Instagram app.
  2. Select Creator tools and controls or Business tools and controls.
  3. Tap Ad placements.
  4. Tap Ads in profile feed block list or Ads on Reels block list.

You can unblock ad categories and advertiser accounts at any time.

Note: We can't guarantee that all ads related to each category can be avoided completely. Ads from certain categories such as gambling and dating are restricted by default.

If you can't see these ad placements in your settings, this means that you aren't currently eligible for ads on Reels and ads in profile feed.

Opt out of ads

You may also completely opt out of either ads on Reels, ads in profile feed, or both, if you are eligible for and onboard to monetisation. This will remove ads shown on your account through these programmes. To opt out:

  1. Go to your settings in the Instagram app.
  2. Select Creator tools and controls or Business tools and controls.
  3. Tap Ad placements.
  4. Toggle off Ads on ReelsAds in profile feed or both.
